Outside wall corner, round profile

Round end profiles - more than just tile protection on outside wall corners

Anyone who has ever laid tiles themselves or has already looked over the shoulders of a tiler knows the critical areas in the course of tiled surfaces. Special precautions are required wherever tiles end, meet other components or are led around a corner. An outside wall corner is a point to which special attention should be paid. A suitable finishing profile helps to effectively protect the exposed tile edges and at the same time to make the outside wall corner optically perfect.

Why a finishing profile is necessary on the outside wall corner

A finishing profile, also known as a mosaic profile or tile profile, forms a secure and visually appealing finish to the tiles at the end of the tiled surfaces or when cornering. The main focus here is of course on the technical advantage. The visually appealing side of every tile is the flat front. While the back is clearly not visible and therefore does not have to meet any optical requirements, the edges of every tile are its weak point. Many tiles do not have a complete coating of the edges, so that purely creative measures have to be taken. The lack of the coating also means less protection, as the coating creates the hard, scratch-resistant and closed-pore surface of the tile in the first place. If it is missing, the tile is susceptible to mechanical damage as well as contamination or attacks by aggressive cleaning agents. It is therefore important to replace this coating, which is often missing, with an end profile. On the outside wall corner, on the other hand, the mosaic profile takes on the additional function of further protection against damage to the tiles. Because where impacts against the surface of the tile usually do not produce any effect, impacts on the narrow edge quickly lead to cracks, flaking or other damage due to the small effective area of the impact, an end profile is an effective remedy here.

These advantages have a round end profile

A popular and frequently used shape for the end profile is the round cross-section, so that a rounded edge is visible after installation. From a purely technical point of view, the round, edgeless shape leads to better protection for the mosaic profile itself. Bumps hit the curve and the force is ineffectively distributed in the component. The susceptibility to damage is therefore significantly lower compared to an angular tile profile. Visually, a round finishing profile recedes behind the actual tile and thus ensures a subtle and restrained look. The round profile on the outside wall corner ensures a harmonious appearance of the entire tile work without placing it too much in the foreground. Usually, the profiles are available in countless colors and can thus be color-coordinated with the joint materials used. As a result, they take a back seat and form a unit with the other tile joints.

Other uses for a round tile profile

Round end profiles can be used for far more purposes than the perfect formation of an external wall corner. As a mosaic profile, it forms a harmonious framework for surfaces with mosaic tiles. At the same time, it enables a straight approach to the small-scale mosaics, so that they can be laid neatly without offset. But also on tiled steps the end profile forms a technical edge protection without being visually in the foreground. Finally, these profiles are ideal for closing off tiled surfaces from other materials, be it the floor tiles against carpet or parquet, or the plinth or wall tiles against the adjoining wallpaper.

Conclusion - Versatile, practical, creative

A round finishing profile for tiles has technical and visual advantages. Versatile, it supplements tile work sensibly and combines them to form a technically flawless and visually harmonious whole. The versatility of use as a corner, finishing or mosaic profile makes it a universal component of all tile work. Especially as a mosaic profile, it fulfills various functions that are usually only implemented improvised.
